Every visitor to Algiers is strongly recommended to make a trip to this gorge, and the recommendation is well worth following, since it offers one of the most beau¬tiful mountain and valley views that can be obtained. The mountains on either side of the ravine rise to a con¬siderable height, and are so clothed with vegetation as to entirely cause one to forget that they are in Africa And here since we have now lost sight of the Mediterranean and have?in a very small degree, it is true [B]?arrived in the interior of that continent, it will be well to say farewell to one of the most beautiful and certainly the most interesting of seas.

Old Mill and Bridge, Beddgelert.?This view is taken from the hill-side on the left of the road leading to Capel Curig, and is a specimen of the pretty scenes so common to Beddgelert. The little Gwynnant stream is seen rushing along under the rustic bridge, and in the distance the river Glaslyn winding through the valley, while on the right a lower portion of Moel Hebog (the hill of flight) stretches upward. In the distant meadows is to be found that romantic spot known as Gelert's grave. It is found near a couple of trees sur¬rounded by a wooden fence. The story is too well known to bear repetition.

Here we get an idea of the extent of the valley, which has long been celebrated for its peaceful beauty ; and if the tourist will only climb to some of the highest points around the town, he will not be otherwise than charmed with the sweetness of this beautifully-wooded and well-watered vale.

Valley at Bettws-y-Coed.?This is a delight favourite,artist,angler,david,cox,ara,ful spot, where one might almost grow young again. It has long been a favourite haunt of both artist and angler. The late David Cox, A.R.A., frequented the neighbour¬hood for forty years, and the old sign board of the Royal Oak Hotel was painted by him, and is still kept in the house as an heirloom. In the view before us can be seen the little village lying in the valley surrounded by hills, that are clothed from base to summit with luxuriant trees, and towering high above all is seen the peak of NORTH WALES. Moel Siabod. Descending, and crossing the river Conway by the Waterloo bridge, on entering the village, we reach a bridge over the river Llugy, named Pont-y- Pair

The picturesque little lake has only been formed within recent years, and greatly adds to the beauty of the scene. In the distance are seen the mountains which surround the lovely vale of Ffestiniog. If a person could live upon landscape, wrote Mr. Wyndham, he would scarcely desire a more eligible spot than this. If the tourist has plenty of time on his hands, a walk of three miles into the neighbouring valley of Ffestiniog will amply repay him, the scenery being almost world- renowned, and made famous by Lord Lyttleton, who, when he visited it in 1756, wrote, If you have a mind to live long, and renew your youth, come and settle at Ffestiniog.

This view is seen half way up the Pass, by turning off to the right of the road by the side of a roaring torrent that is rushing onwards to Llyn Peris. Here we are in the very midst of grandeur. On all sides lay great masses of rock, which in some bygone age have become detached, from the mountains above. These monster fragments scattered upon the precipitous sides of the mountains, tend to increase the weirdness of the scene, which how¬ever, is highly intensified by the view of the Lakes lying calm and peaceful at the end of the grim valley.

A tour of North Wales. 31.View at Nant Mill?To get this view we can either descend Snowdon on the Llanberis side, and then take train, vid Carnarvon, for Bettws Garmon, or we can find our way over the mountain to Snowdon Hanger, and so along the valley. If we choose the former we have a pleasant ride along the peculiar little narrow-gauge railway, with its fine views, and the picture before us may be seen from the carriage windows as we pass along. This is a charming spot, and has long been a favourite haunt of the artist. Although the old Mill is gone, there remains still such a picture of exquisite beauty, that one cannot help a feeling of intense pleasure at the sight.
