902_05_12512058highres Magic Lantern slide circa 1900 hand coloured. created in 1887. A tour of North Wales. Llangollen?the River and Barber's Hill. ?This scene, whilst displaying the river to more ad¬vantage, is a fair specimen of the beauty of Llangollen's neighbourhood. For quiet rest and gentle exercise, few similar natural pleasure resorts are to be found in Wales. Llangollen is celebrated as once being the home of two ladies who declared their independence and desire to avoid matrimonial engagement by living alone, in a little cottage still to be seen on the South side of the vale. The fact is recorded in the Welsh song :? In the Vale of Llangollen a cottage ia seen, Well shelter'd from tempests by shades ever green, . There the daisy first opens its eye to the day, And the hawthorn first blooms on the bosom of May. There, far from the haunts of ambition and pride. Contentment and virtue and friendship abide, And Nature complacent smiles sweet on the pair, Who have spendour forsaken, to worship her there.

akg5857362 Great Britain (United Kingdom), Northern Ireland, Causeway Coastal Route: ruins of Dunluce Castle (built 13th/14th century). In 13th century, Richard Óg de Burgh, 2nd Earl of Ulster, built the first castle at Dunluce. Its irish name is Dún Libhse ("strong fortress"). Earliest castle possession of the McQuillan family was 1513. Oldest buildings of the castle are two large drum towers about 9 metres (30 ft) in diameter on eastern side, serving as a stronghold for the McQuillans when they became lords of the Route. Later on, Dunluce Castle went to the chief of Clan MacDonnell of Antrim and the Clan MacDonald of Dunnyveg (Scotland). In 1584, Dunluce Castle was conquered by the MacDonnells, who became first Earls of Antrim. In 1588, the Girona, a galleass from the Spanish Armada, stranded near Dunluce Castle. With the money earned by selling the cargo, Dunluce Castle was renovated. In 1693, a storm blew down the kitchen of the castle. However, there are still remains of a kitchen, near the castle. In 2011, archeologists found the remains of the village of Dunluce, which was destroyed to the ground in 1641, during the last Irish Uprising.
