Private Gibbons took this photograph on December 1, 1918, depicting the aftermath of battle. The image shows abandoned munitions, messkits, condiment cans, haversacks, and cartridge belts in the foreground. The location is identified as Cote 299 (Mp.Co-ord 311.0 286.8 Dun sur Meuse) on the Cunel-Clery, Meuse road, looking northwest towards Aincreville, France. This area was captured by the 5th Division between October 21 and October 30, 1918. The photograph was issued with the identifying number 94008.
